Sian Elin's work really caught my eye at Tent London; I loved her charming bright geo prints, especially the colourful peacocks that were so quirky and fun.

Sian is a creative surface pattern designer and illustrator from Wales who launched her new range of wallpaper and textiles at Tent London after working as a children’s book designer for Penguin and Oxford University Press for five years. Sian started her own surface pattern design business called Sian Elin at the end of 2011. Sian is fascinated by the built environment and that is reflected in her bold hand-drawn colourful prints and illustrations.

"Sian Elin employs British manufacturers and suppliers and is keen to create a sustainable business in the UK."

When I came across Laura Felicity's work at Tent London my heart skipped a beat. Her delicate wallpaper print, entitled "dotty bird", adorned in bird cages, birds, dots and machine embroidery was so precious I had to stop and find out more...

"Tent London is one of the largest design trade shows taking place during the London Design Festival each September. Now in its sixth year at the Old Truman Brewery, Tent London presents over 200 international exhibitors, showing the very latest in contemporary interior products - furniture, lighting, ceramics, textiles, materials and accessories."

Tent London was my favourite of all the shows; there was just stand after stand of loveliness, from chinky knitted furniture hand stitched butterfly ceramics. The prettiest of prints and the quirkiest of accessories. More on that later...

Suitably inspired by all the loveliness I saw at The London Design Festival I am now getting ready for Autumn. While I show you all my favourite inspiration on Torie Jayne over the next few days I will be getting super organized and baking some sweet treats.

The London Design Festival 2012 - Design Junction

Myung Nam An

"Now in its second year, Design Junction has cemented its reputation for showcasing the finest selection of international design brands. This year Design Junction welcomes the Tramshed into the event to create an even more powerful showcase for design in London’s largest non-purpose built event space."

"Design Junction will feature more than 100 world-class international brands set against the industrial surrounds of a 1960’s sorting office. Moving away from the traditional trade show environment, Design Junction strikes the balance between creative and commercial, offering visitors a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere to engage and connect with design."

It was such a cool venue but due to the lighting I was unable to take many decent photos so instead just enjoyed the atmosphere and admired all the treasures on show. My favourite was the wall display from Myung Nam An made up of beautifully sculpted glass ornaments in a gorgeous colour palette of peach, mint and white with pops of yellow and orange. The chandeliers from Baccarat were gorgeously decadent and quirky due to the fact they were housed under big cream umbrellas!

The London Design Festival 2012 - Super Brands London

Whiter than White @ Super Brands London

"Super Brands London is an interiors trade fair exclusively for established global design brands. Co-located with Tent London - a main destination hub during the London Design Festival, the exhibition occupies a 2,500m2 ground floor space of the ex-industrial, now impressive exhibition space - the Old Truman Brewery; bringing together two floors of pure design."

Upon arriving I fell in love with Ginger & Jagger's glamorous stand. There were plush velvet chairs, hammered metal stools, and twig legged tables, all in a beautiful opulent colour palette of gold, silver, copper and cream. Another favourite was whose "young tree" lacquered aluminium lamps' use of gold within the shades cast a lovely warm glow. There was also a great exhibition by the Materials Council called Whiter than White. It was a demonstration on the white options available to architects when selecting materials that shape our surroundings and how these choices influence our experience of the built environment. Small and large-scale samples across a range of architectural materials – glass, metal, natural stone, man-made stone, concrete, timber, textiles, etc were laid out on long wooden tables. One of my favourite materials was the woven pearlized leather.

The London Design Festival 2012 - 100% Design

London Design Week
On the hunt for new interior inspiration, last friday I spent the day at four interior trade shows taking part in the London Design Festival. I started my day off at 100% Design, from there I took a tube across town to Tent London & Super Brands London, where I met up with a friend for some afternoon fuel, then a quick tube into the centre of town for Design Junction and after a short bus trip even managed a quick shopping trip to Anthropologie! Over the next few days I will share with you my highlights from my whirlwind tour of the London Design Festival...

"In just 10 years, the London Design Festival has built a reputation for being
the most innovative and thrilling design festival in the world."

Hanji Dancheong

"100% Design is the largest and most prestigious single-site design event in the UK. As one of the world’s most important design trade events, 100% Design is the commercial cornerstone of the annual London Design Festival. The show attracts exhibitors, visitors, designers and press from around the world"

The sleek show was split into four section: 100% Interiors, 100% Office, 100% Kitchen & Bathrooms and 100% Eco Design & Build. There were some great new products, like corian worktops in an ever expanding colour palette and magnetic walls that were strong enough to holds saucepans and potted herbs! In 100% Eco Design they had living green walls for indoors using preserved moss. In 100% Interiors the decorative metal lace panels projected the prettiest patterns but my absolute favourite was the pressed paper wall and ceiling decorations from Hanji Dancheong. I loved everything about them, from the colour palette of dusky pink, grey, putty and white, to the subtle texture and intricate pattern.

Pleased to Meet @ Top Drawer
There were lots of lovely stationery brands at the trend show, Top Drawer. My top three favourites were Pleased to Meet, Katy & June and Gellie Design.

Pleased to Meet is the brainchild of Daniel and Marcel Could Hornung. The pair met in the US and when they moved to Berlin in 2004 they started designing first class products locally printed on fine papers and lovingly hand packaged. Their style can be described as retro, with simple aesthetics inspired by their love of American Mid Century Design. On show were bird print cards in pale blue and ochre, woodland themed gift wrap in taupe, and deep blue fish paper. The stationery was beautifully styled on top of wooden crates with vintage typewriters, pops of yellow string and bright red stools.

Katy & June @Top Drawer
Katy & June stationery
Katy & June was founded by Katy Lee and June Kim who wanted to bring Korean stationery and gift products to the world! They have selected a broad range of stationery and gifts, like deer printed ringbinders, natural woodland themed gift wrap, and tags and graphic printed notebooks.

Gellie Design is a small greeting card publisher based in High Wycombe which designs and produces beautiful, contemporary and unique greeting cards. Printed and hand finished in the UK they had all occasions covered with cute cards. I loved their mix of prints and use of embellishments with embossed and glittered details.

On Tuesday I went to Top Drawer, a London based trade show of over 700 carefully selected British and international suppliers of home accessories, gift ideas, kids products, stationery and fashion accessories. Top Drawer showcases the newest product launches, cutting edge designs and must-have products for 2012.

Today I wanted to show you all the loveliness from one of my favourite labels, Pip Studio. The Pip Studio stand was a riot of colour and prints, from the racks of nightwear beautifully hung on fabric covered, gingham ribbon-trimmed hangers to the piles of gorgeous porcelain. I fell in love with the books of quirky wallpaper and I have to get my hands on some of the brightly coloured gift wrap! It was pure eye candy...
